2019 Student of the Year – Garth Leon

Every year the instructors at Premier Academy choose an outstanding member to receive the Waldemar Rozenkiewicz Student of the Year Award. This award is given in commemoration to one of our founding students who tragically lost his battle with cancer several year ago. The student chosen is someone who is an inspiration not only to their fellow students but also to the instructors at Premier Academy. This prestigious award comes not just as a trophy bit also with one year’s free training! In 2019, the instructors unanimously chose Garth Leon as our Waldemar Rozenkiewicz Student of the Year. Garth is one of our most dedicated students, training regularly in the Adults Freestyle Martial Arts program as well as in the Sports Taekwondo and Kickboxing programs. Garth is also a member of our Leadership Team and his helping to inspire our younger students with his enthusiasm for training.

Garth has used his martial arts training to develop himself both physically and mentally as he strives for constant and never-ending improvement.

In Garth’s own words:
“Premier is like a family to me. The tough love and the inspiration really helps me cope with the tough times in life. I also like that we can connect to so many different types of people. Over time I feel like my devotion to Premier keeps getting stronger. I like it how both the instructors and students always say ‘never give up’. It’s hard to beat someone who never gives up. I can proudly say I devote my life to Premier. I cannot thank Premier enough for what they do for me. In return, I will always strive to make a better me. Thank you Premier! I’ll be holding my head up high and screaming at the top of my lungs LET’S GO PREMIER!”

In the words of Garth’s mum Cathy:
“Garth is so proud to belong to Premier. Being part of Premier has completely changed Garth’s life. It has made him happy, confident, fit, strong  and healthy. He enjoys every minute of his time at Premier and loves every member of his Premier family. He is incredibly grateful and deeply humbled by receiving this award and has committed himself to always give Premier his best.”

WORD OF THE WEEK

At Premier Academy each of training plans usually runs for two to three weeks and has a slightly different focus to the preceding plan. Along with the physical techniques and skills the instructors also focus on a different “word of the week”. Instructors will use the word of the week as a key motivating term during training and also discuss it with students at the end of their training session. We would like to encourage parents to listen in at the end of the session so they can discuss the word of the week at home with their kids. This will help to ensure they understand what each word means and how can live up to that word in their training, at school and at home. The instructors would also greatly appreciate feedback from parents about the word of the week and student’s understanding of it. Keep an eye out on our digital signage for the new “word of the week” posters which will be coming soon!
